From the Ground: The Real Israel-Palestine
Everybody’s Right
We spent the afternoon shopping and walking around the old city of Jaffa with our old friend Simon (also seen posting many comments on this blog).
During our lunch, he told us a joke:
Three men were having a disagreement, so they went to see a rabbi.
The first guy went to the rabbi and told his side of the disagreement. The rabbi said, “You’re right.”
The second guy went to the rabbi and told his side of the the disagreement. The rabbi said, “You’re right.”
The third guy went to the rabbi and said, “You told both of the other two that they were right! How is that possible!?” The rabbi thought for a minute and then said, “You’re right.”
The point of the story, Simon said, is that according to their own “perspective” (experiences, circumstances, upbringing, etc), everybody is right.
It’s an important point. And if everybody here would take a minute to consider the perspective of the other side, we’d all be better off.
